COUNTRY MANAGERS CONFERENCE

Each year the CMAA Country Managers Conference builds in status as the primary opportunity for regional managers to discuss issues unique to country clubs. The conference is moving to the Riverina in 2019, hosted by the Rules Club Wagga Wagga from 13-15 May.

In contrast to many industry events, where experts deliver information to the delegates in a traditional manner, the Country Managers’ Conference takes a more personal and active approach for many sessions. Questions from the floor during discussions and panel style sessions enable the managers to share knowledge and experience with industry experts in a more interactive way, and is one of the main reasons for the growing popularity of this event. Assumptions are challenged, experiences traded, problems solved, and the start to finish processes of success stories are reported.

Last year the “Club Industry Issues Forum” discussed topical subjects that included legislation changes, corporate governance, and industry trends, while the Gaming Panel focused on game performance trends, and hold percentages. This year new issues are arising such as changes to loyalty programs and costs, and how the smaller players are reacting to new style games.  Each year the delegates are given the opportunity to focus on these specific key areas by simultaneously networking and creating solutions with fellow conference peers. Of particular relevance this year will be discussions on drought-proofing a club. As NSW has been declared nearly 99% drought affected, regional clubs are dealing with the impacts of the drought either by rising food prices and shortages, shrinkage in their customers’ leisure spending, and mental health issues within their communities. Innovative ideas are a requirement of business for country clubs.  By swapping information and sharing solutions, fresh insights and strategies are developed that ensure country clubs continue to be sustainable and of to service their communities.
