GAMING FLOOR DESIGN – SOCIAL DISTANCING IN GAMING
When clubs and hotels reopen on 1 June there will be restrictions on the number of players allowed in the gaming area. There must be 1.5 meters between machines and the gaming room will be capped at up to 50 players, based on the size of the venue, with only 1 person per 4 square meters of space.
Tony Donnelly, from Donnelly Designs is a leading industry expert in gaming floor space and design. Tony has a few points for people to consider on reopening:
- The 1.5m rule applies to machines next to each other, as well as corridors through banks. Clubs and hotels need to ensure a player when seated, is 1.5m away from a player seated at a machine next to them and 1.5m away from a player on another bank behind them.
- To achieve 1.5m distancing if redesigning floors bench space needs to be 2.2m wide for each machine
- Provision of sanitiser and wipes at each machine will be a positive inclusion and can be nicely presented using bench attachments and shelves
- Additional screens enable the players to feel more protected from other players around them, and examples are show below:

Example 1: No privacy screens

Example 2: Machine banks with privacy screens separating players

Example 2: Before – no screening

Example 2: After – a simple privacy screen between machines along a wall
