October 1st was International Coffee Day. This year it was also the inaugural Youth Off The Streets Cup of Kindness Day where supporting cafes from across Australia were asked to celebrate good coffee and a good cause, and to donate 50c from every cup of coffee sold to the charity.
Over 50 cafes participated in the fundraising initiative and raised closed to $20,000 on the day. Cup of Kindness Day was proudly supported by Hennessy Coffee and ClubsNSW, with clubs both large and small from Queensland, NSW and the ACT integral to the success of the event which Youth Off The Streets plan to run each year. The official launch was held at Coogee Beach Club, one of the Randwick Group of Clubs.
Cafes who registered to participate were deemed “kind cafes”, and the café that helped to promote Cup of Kindness Day most creatively was awarded the Kindest Café Award. A joint win by Little Spoon and Steam – the two coffee shops operated by Club Rivers took out the honours. They provided branded cupcakes and cookies, dressed the cafes in promotional material and strongly supported the event in house and on social media through posters, images and videos.
The winners received an award announcing them as Australia’s Kindest Café 2020, a promotional pack from Hennessey Coffee and the opportunity to host the launch of next year’s Cup of Kindness Day.
The Randwick Club also chose the Cup of Kindness Day launch at the Coogee Beach Club (one of their venues), to present Youth Off The Streets with a $25,000 cheque as part of their 2020 ClubGRANTS commitment.
